Moscow Architectural and Art Design Institute named after Academician Polyansky

An expert opinion was received on the project for the reconstruction of the buildings of the Helikon Opera Theater

According to the assignment, on the territory of the Glebov-Streshnev-Shakhovsky estate, it is planned to build a new building with an auditorium for the Helikon Opera musical theater. It is also planned to reconstruct the extension and scientific restoration of the existing main building of the estate.

JSC "MAKhPI im. Academician Polyansky" design and estimate documentation was developed and engineering surveys were carried out. The project received a positive conclusion from the Moscow State Expertise No. 943-14/MGE/3060-2/4 dated September 30, 2014.
The new Helikon Opera building has been one of Moscow's long-term construction projects since the early 2000s. The initial project was planned to be completed back in 2013, but it was suspended due to the publication of the special cultural status of the Glebov-Streshnev-Shakhovsky estate.
The current project successfully fits a 3-4 storey building of a large theater auditorium directly into the courtyard of the estate. The main building of the estate and the outbuilding facing Kalashny Lane will undergo scientific restoration to restore their appearance at the end of the 19th century.
Such a solution, on the one hand, will create a contrast between the facades in classical styles and the ultra-modern Great Auditorium, on the other hand, it will not harm the appearance of the historical center of Moscow.
