The project was developed as part of an open international competition for the architectural concept of the Radisson Blu Moscow Riverside Hotel&SPA hotel complex, held on the initiative of the Moscow Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning. The facility, the construction of which is planned on the spit of the Moscow River and the Skhodnya River, should become key in the improvement of the territory of the Moscow Construction Materials Plant and the development of the banks of the northern part of the Moscow River.
The volumetric-spatial solution of the building provides for the creation of an active plastic dominant, working from both distant and near points due to the variety of view angles and various architectural techniques on the facades of all elements of the hotel complex.
The complex is a stepped structure made up of four volumes. The lower one is a two-story stylobate with a two-story atrium, from where you can get to all functional areas. On the ground floor there is the hotel entrance, part of the room capacity, technical and service premises. On the second floor there are rooms, the hotel administration, the entrance to the SPA center, a business center and a multifunctional hall. The business center and SPA center also have independent entrances from the territory.
The roof of the stylobate is multifunctional. There is a public space on it, into which the pool hall of the SPA center opens. On the south-eastern side, its roof turns into a wide canopy over the main entrance.
On the stylobate, two buildings of equal height but different number of storeys and configurations are installed parallel to each other. The six-story building, facing south - towards Skhodnya, is an elongated rectangle in plan, facing the center of the stylobate with rounded corners. Short stay hotel rooms are located here.
The second four-story “block” is close to a square in plan, its corners are also rounded. On its lower level there are premises of the SPA center: a swimming pool with a bath complex, gyms, a beauty salon, and above, along the perimeter of the glazed atrium designed above the pool bowl, there are offices.
The volumes rising on the stylobate serve as the basis for the main part of the complex - a ten-story “plate with one rounded corner”, laid on their roofs perpendicularly and asymmetrically: on both sides the “plate” protrudes beyond its supports by different lengths. This block is occupied by apartments. On its roof, in addition to a recreation area with a swimming pool, there is space for a helipad.
The three upper buildings form an arch-window measuring 21x21 m. It “unloads” the volumetric-spatial composition and brings lightness and dynamics to it.
The arrhythmic layout of rectangular, trapezoidal windows and bay windows on the facades, splashes of color in the walls of the upper block conceal the number of floors.
Thanks to playing with the geometry of buildings, windows and facade cladding, the appearance of the building changes from angle to angle.
From the side of the Moscow River, a giant “screen” is visible, hovering above the trees and “shimmering” with a mosaic of façade elements, in which dynamic diagonals prevail. From the side of the Setun River, the powerful plasticity of the cantilever extension of the upper “plate” dominates. From the side of the main entrance, the rounded corners of the volumes above the stylobate visually draw the eye inward, focusing attention on the entrance area.
The project was noted by the jury as one of the most expressive and vibrant.
